- Trustee Cheryl Edwards attended online summit on resiliency and noted it was a great learning opportunity with many great speakers.
- Trustee Roy Ripkens attended the Public School Boards' Association of Alberta summer conference which featured a tour of a school modernization project. He said he learned a lot about the value of modernizing an existing facility versus building something new as well as the community consultation process.
Welcome Back Breakfasts
The Board is excited to welcome all NLPS staff and bus drivers to the start of the 2023-2024 school year. Welcome Back Breakfasts will be held in all three communities during the next week to connect and celebrate with staff.
Board Professional Development Plan
The Board approved their professional development plan for trustees. It will be reviewed at a later date as some conference dates and locations were not yet available.
Public School Boards' Association of Alberta
Trustees discussed several topics arising from the recent PSBC meeting held in Medicine Hat including the Education Minister's mandate letter. Many trustees reflected on the sessions focused on Indigenous Education and how some of the initiatives could be adapted for Northern Lights Public Schools.
