rideSAFE

rideSAFE is a student school bus safety program developed by Northern Lights Public Schools to teach students about how to stay safe while riding the bus to and from school.

The program uses a combination of classroom discussion and practical exercises on a school bus. Focused on students in Kindergarten to Grade 6, it includes the following topics:

  • general school bus safety;
  • rider responsibilities;
  • bus rules;
  • bus evacuations.

The content can be tailored for older students (grades 7-12) and customized to address specific issues being experienced on NLPS buses and in our region.

To coincide with School Bus Safety Week, rideSAFE is offered to students throughout the division in October, bus can be offered at any time during the school year.

The program is instructed by the division's senior driving instructor.
