Preschool Registration

Existing Preschool Students

Student who are already enrolled in our Care to Learn Preschool program can register for 2018-2019 through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Instructions were shared earlier this year with all parents. If you did not receive the instructions or require assistance, please contact your school.

To register, log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and click on School Engage in the lower left hand corner. Click on Students and choose the child you wish to register. Select the Preschool Re-Enrollment form on the right-hand side, fill it out and submit it. You may need to provide citizenship documentation as part of the process (birth certificate, passport, citizenship documents), if we do not already have something on file, so please have that available to upload. 

Once you have submitted your form, it may take up to five working days (Monday-Friday, excluding statutory holidays) for us to review your form and availability in the class you have selected. You may receive a call from our division coordinator during that time to confirm details.

Please note that if you register after June 22, your registration may not be processed until schools re-open on August 22.

Once your registration has been approved, you will receive instructions on how to pay your deposit through School Cash Online.

New Preschool Students

New Preschool Students will register using School Engage by clicking HERE. You will need to provide citizenship documentation as part of the process (birth certificate, passport, citizenship documents), so please have that available to upload. 

Once you have submitted your form, it may take up to five working days (Monday-Friday, excluding statutory holidays) for us to review your form and availability in the class you have selected. You may receive a call from our division coordinator during that time to confirm details.

Please note that if you register after June 22, your registration may not be processed until schools re-open on August 22.

Once your enrollment has been confirmed, you will need to complete your enrollment by paying your deposit. This is the process you will need to follow:

  • You will receive an email with your Access ID and Access Password for the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Instructions on how to create an account and link your student to that account have been posted HERE. You will need to do this to access your student's ASN (Alberta Student Number), which you will need to set up an account in School Cash Online, or to attach your student to your existing School Cash Online account.
  • If you do not already have a School Cash Online account, please follow the instructions HERE to set one up and attach your student to your account using their ASN.
  • You will receive an email notification from School Cash online when your preschool deposit is available to be paid. This may take up to 24 hours.

If you need assistance in setting up or using School Cash Online, please contact your school. Your space in the preschool program will be held for two weeks from the date your enrollment is confirmed. If you have not made payment by that time, your space may be assigned to someone else. If you are experiencing difficulty paying the fee on time or need assistance with applying for the Provincial Government's Child Care Subsidy, please contact our Division Coordinator, Glenda Bouvier, at 780-623-4414. 

 

Kindergarten Registration

If you are a current Care to Learn Preschool student at one of our schools, you should have received an email with information about how to confirm your registration in our Kindergarten programs using the PowerSchool Parent Portal. You do not have to fill out a new Kindergarten registration form. If you did not receive the information, please contact your school's administrative assistant for instructions.

If you are not currently enrolled in our preschool program, you can register online with our K-12 Registration Form through School Engage. You will need to provide citizenship documentation as part of the process (birth certificate, passport, citizenship papers), so please have a photo or scan of your documents ready to upload to your online registration.

K-12 Registration Form

Grades 1-12

Online registration is intended for the registration of NEW students only. If your child was registered in school in June of the previous school year, they are automatically enrolled in the promoted grade in the new school year. Do not re-enroll them online. They are already registered!

High School Students that are new to Northern Lights Public Schools may register online but must also make arrangements to meet with their school's guidance counselor or principal to do their course selection and to complete the registration process.

You will need to provide citizenship documentation as part of the process (birth certificate, passport, citizenship papers), so please have a photo or scan of your documents ready to upload to your online registration.

Independent Students

(Students 18 years of age  or older; or 16 years of age or older and considered legally “independent” (not living at home and providing solely for themselves) are considered “independent” under the School Act. An Independent Student may complete this form and register for school in Northern Lights Public Schools without parental consent.  Proof of Independent Status must be presented.

Transportation Registration

As of September 1, 2016, in-town busing fees have been waived by the Northern Lights Public Schools Board of Trustees. 

If you are new to Northern Lights Public Schools, you must register for school before you can apply for Transportation Services (see above for K-12 registration instructions). Once a new students' registration has been confirmed, you will receive instructions on how to access your  PowerSchool Parent Portal. The Transportation Registration Form can be accessed through the Parent Portal by clicking on School Engage in the lower left hand corner. 

Please note, the Transportation Registration Form is primarily for students who are new to Northern Lights Public Schools or who are not currently accessing Transportation Services. Students who are currently riding the bus do not need to register unless they are changing schools or changing addresses before the start of the new school year.

Out of School Care

Registration for the 2018-2019 school year will open on June 1 for full-time users only. The registration form will be available through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. If you already have a Parent Portal account set up, you can log in, click on School Engage in the lower left hand corner and you will be able to see and fill out the form. If you do not already have a Parent Portal account set up, please contact your school for information.

Once you have submitted your form, it may take up to five working days (Monday-Friday, excluding statutory holidays) to review and approve your enrolment. Once your enrolment is approved, you will receive notification that your deposit fees are available to be paid through School Cash Online. Please note that registrations received after June 22 will not be processed until staff return to schools following the summer break (August 22).

School Cash Online Account Instructions

Please note: 

The Out of School Care program requires 30 days written notice to withdraw from Full-Time Care (AM or PM). 

Once you have registered and paid your deposit in June (or thereafter) for the upcoming school year, you may withdraw prior to August 1 and be refunded your full deposit. (Subsidy deposit or first/last month fee deposit) If you withdraw on or after August 1, you will only be refunded your last month fee deposit, provided you have given 30 days written notice.

Once OSC received your 30-day notice, you will entitled to your deposit/last month fees back, provided you have no outstanding fees owing. You may withdraw anytime throughout the school year by providing 30 days notice.

Casual Care

Registration for Casual Care for the 2018-2019 school year is currently not available. Casual Care will only be offered as space permits. Availability will be determined closer to the start of the school year. It may not be available at all sites.

 

Summer School Registration

All students are required to meet with the school counsellor from the summer school site they wish to attend to discuss whether or not Summer School would be a good option for them.

Once that discussion has taken place, current NLPS students can log into their PowerSchool Student Portal to find the Summer School registration form. If you're unsure about how to log into PowerSchool or do not have a Student Portal account, contact your school administration about how to log in to your PowerSchool student portal. Once logged in, students need to click on the SchoolEngage icon on the bottom left hand side. The Summer School Registration form will be visbile when SchoolEngage Opens.
