Election 2025

The next school board election is October 20, 2025.

Individuals intending to run for school board trustee can begin campaigning as early as January 1, 2025, after they have submitted a Notice of Intent.

The nomination period runs from January 1, 2025 through to noon on Nomination Day (September 22, 2025). Individuals who wish to run for the position of trustee must complete the Nomination Package and submit it to the Returning Officer.

Notices of Intent and Nomination Packages can be submitted at the NLPS Division Office in Bonnyville (6005 - 50 Avenue) at the following dates and times:

  • January 1, 2025 to June 30, 2025: Normal working days between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
  • July 1, 2025 to August 31, 1025: Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • September 1, 2025 to September 21, 2025: Normal working days between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.,
  • September 22, 2025: 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Qualification of Candidates

To be nominated as a candidate in the school board election under the Local Authorities Election Act, a person must be eligible under sections 21 and 47 of the Local Authorities Election Act and sections 4(4) and 74 of the Education Act (if applicable) to be elected to the office, and not otherwise disqualified under section 22 or 23 of the Local Authorities Election Act.

Electoral Wards

The Northern Lights Public Schools (NLPS) Board of Trustees consists of nine trustees from 5 wards:

  • Ward 1 - Bonnyville and Area - 3 trustees
  • Ward 2 - Cold Lake and Area - 3 trustees
  • Ward 3 - Lac La Biche - 1 trustee
  • Ward 4 - Lac La Biche North - 1 trustee
  • Ward 5 - Lac La Biche South - 1 trustee

What Ward do I belong to?

The Northern Lights School Division  electoral wards were created in 1995 when the Lakeland Public School District and Lac La Biche School District were amalgamated. they were recently updated to include the Cold Lake Air Weapons range (ID 349), which has been added to Ward 4.
