We value your input and want to hear your thoughts about next year’s school calendar! This year, we’re trying something new to gather more meaningful feedback about what you’d like to see in the 2025-2026 calendar and beyond.
Why Is the School Calendar Important?
Creating a school calendar involves balancing factors that impact student learning and success with other considerations, including:
- Instructional time requirements from the Guide to Education;
- Legislated requirements such as those in the Education Act;
- Statutory holidays;
- Collective agreements; and
- The needs of our families and communities.
While student success is always our top priority, we also strive to create a calendar that works well for students, staff, and families. Your feedback is essential in helping us shape calendars that best meet the needs of our school community.
What’s Changing This Year?
Instead of sharing a draft school calendar and asking for feedback, this year we’re launching a School Calendar Survey to gather input on key aspects of the calendar. The survey will include questions about topics such as:
- Should school always start after Labour Day?
- Would you prefer more or fewer no-school days during the year?
- Would you like longer or shorter breaks?
- Should a November break be added to the calendar?
How It Will Work
- Where to Find It: The survey is available on our Engage NLPS website.
- Who Can Participate: All stakeholder groups—students, parents, staff, and community members—are welcome to share their feedback.
- When It’s Open: The survey will be open from January 7 to 21, giving everyone two weeks to participate.
What Happens Next?
Once the survey closes, the calendar committee will review all the feedback to draft a school calendar for 2025-2026. This draft, along with the feedback received, will be shared with the Board for review. After the Board approves the calendar, it will be shared with all stakeholders.
Additionally, the feedback collected in the School Calendar Survey will help shape future calendars to better reflect the needs and preferences of our school community.
Thank You for Your Input!
We greatly appreciate your participation in this process and the time you take to share your feedback. Together, we can create a school calendar that supports student success and works well for everyone.
