Artwork from a Learning Together Anywhere School student will soon be on display across the Lakeland.
Tracey Galang, a Grade 7 LTA student, had her artwork selected to be in the 2024 Lakeland Industry & Community Association (LICA) calendar.
"During school I saw the contest for the calendar in our meeting room," Tracey said. "And I've always liked drawing and colouring, since I was little. So I wanted to do a picture for the contest."
Last October, entrants were instructed to submit artwork that fit the theme "Species At Risk," highlighting animals that are endangered or threatened. Tracey is a self-described animal lover, with two cats at home - Mingel and Charcoal. And so she was interested in the theme, and chose to draw a loggerhead turtle for her submission. "I like all kinds of animals but turtles especially, and so the loggerhead turtle really stood out to me."
Upon hearing that her art had been selected, Tracey was thrilled. "I was so happy because it means a lot of people would see my art. I've won art contests at school and things before, but this is the first time that so many people will see my art. My family was all really happy too, and it was a lot of fun."
In addition to having her artwork featured in the calendar, she also received a $50 cash prize.
LTA Principal Brandon Isert and the rest of the LTA staff informed the students of the art contest to give them an opportunity to showcase their talent and creativity.
"Tracey's artwork not only displayed exceptional skill but also raised awareness about a critical environmental issue," Isert said. "It is a moment of pride for our school, and this recognition serves as a testament to the dedication and artistic prowess present in our Learning Together Anywhere School. This award is not just a personal achievement for Tracey but also an honor for our entire school community."
Northern Lights Public Schools is pleased to congratulate Tracey on her artistic success and recognition.
