The Maegan Janz Ladies Basketball Scholarship is established in loving memory of Maegan Janz and her passion for basketball. Maegan attended Glendon School, played basketball both at the Junior and Senior High levels and continued to be involved with the basketball program at Glendon even after she graduated.
Purpose
The purpose of the Maegan Janz Ladies Basketball Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a Glendon high school graduate, enrolled in any Canadian post-seconday institution to attend studies and compete in basketball at a post-secondary level.
Amount
The amount of the Maegan Janz Ladies Basketball Scholarship is $500 per year. A second disbursement of $500 is also available to the student upon completion of their first year of basketball and studies.
Recipient Criteria
To be eligible to receive the first disbursement of $500 of the Maegan Janz Ladies Basketball Scholarship, an applicant must:
- Have received the official Alberta Education transcript;
- Have received a provisional letter of acceptance from a post-secondary institution in Canada;
- Be recommended by the Principal of Glendon School;
- Submit an application to the Principal and Board of Trustees' Student Achievement Committee before June 30th;
- Applicant must have played basketball at least two years prior with Glendon School; and
- Provide evidence that she is on the roster of the post-secondary basketball team (letter of confirmation from the team coach).
To be eligible to receive the second disbursement of $500, the recipient must provide evidence that she was on the post-secondary institution's basketball team's roster at the completion of the basketball season.
Selection Process
The Principal and the Board of Trustees' Student Achievement Committee shall review applications from the Glendon High School graduates on an annual basis to determine the recipient of the Maegan Janz Ladies Basketball Scholarship. All application meeting the above-stated Recipient Criteria shall be considered.
In order to prevent conflict of interest and to assure all applicants have an equal opportunity for selection, any person related to an applicant shall remove themselves from the selection process.
