Purpose and Nature of the Scholarship
The scholarship is presented in memory of Walter Hayduk, a long time teacher, superintendent, trustee and friend of education. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage academic excellence and assist students entering the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta. The annual scholarship will consist of:
- a cash award of $100
- suitable certificate
Qualification Criteria
- Criteria:
- the student must be a current graduate of NLPS and can only apply in their graduating year
- the student must have a Grade 12 average of 80% or greater
- the student must be entering post-secondary training at the University of Alberta and must provide proof of registration and acceptance
- the student must be entering the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta
- If more than one candidate achieves substantially identical performance in the qualification criteria included above, the award shall be given to the student with the greatest financial need. If both students are still deemed to be substantially identical, the award may be divided evenly among the candidates.
- The recipient shall satisfy the entrance requirements of the University of Alberta (confirmation of the student's registration and acceptance must be obtained from the University of Alberta). If the student is not immediately attending the University of Alberta, they shall have until one year from their graduation to satisfy this requirement. If this is the case, payment of the scholarship shall be held in trust by the Board for a period not to exceed one year from their graduation until post-secondary attendance can be confirmed.
