Northern Lights Schools Celebrate Family Literacy Day

Schools across the Division celebrated Family Literacy Day on Monday, January 27, with activities designed to make reading fun and engaging. The events supported the division’s focus on Increasing Student Achievement, with an emphasis on building literacy skills in K-6 classrooms.

At Duclos School, students joined up for buddy reading with parents and other family members. Duclos teachers also re-enacted a story through an improv performance at the school's Just Read assembly.

Cold Lake Elementary invited families to spend the afternoon reading together. Grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and family friends joined students in classrooms. Reading stations, book-themed quizzes, and refreshments were available for all participants.

At École Plamondon School, students took part in a "Special Person Read," where guests were invited to share their favourite books.

Glendon School is hosting literacy-related activities all week long, including a "Wear Words Day," and a day to dress up as a book character.

Kikino School welcomed Elder Jim White to read with students and had students dress up as their favourite book characters.

By bringing families, students, and staff together, these activities reinforced the joy of reading and the vital role it plays in early education.
