For 15 years, Nadine Parent has been an Educational Assistant at École Plamondon School, welcoming and supporting students every day.
Nadine is known for her kindness and ability to connect with students, helping them feel supported and valued.
"The students come in and you're with them just as much as they are with their parents. They need someone here to provide stability and trust, to help them feel safe and cared for," she explained. Her natural warmth makes her a trusted and familiar presence at the school.
Beyond the classroom, Nadine plays an important role in making sure students have access to nutritious food. She runs the school’s food cart, offering healthy food to those who need them. This initiative helps ensure students stay focused and feel looked after during the school day.
Nadine also supervises students in the mornings, greeting them with smiles and encouragement.
"I do supervision at this door every day, so I get the little kids coming in—saying good morning, giving high fives, and hugs. If you're having a tough day, some of these little ones just lift you right up. You walk into a class and they’re like, ‘You’re with us today! Yay!’ It really makes you feel valued," she shared.
She has also lent a hand with the school’s volleyball team, further showing her dedication to student success in and out of the classroom. Her colleagues appreciate the effort she puts into her work.
"Nadine is the most thoughtful and kind support staff we have," says Taylor Watson, a fellow EA at EPS. She constantly goes out of her way to help others. She goes above and beyond for her students and doesn’t get enough recognition. She teaches life skills and ensures her students have food when they need it. She’s always willing to lend a hand, both in school and in the community."
School principal Karen Grygus adds, "Nadine is exactly what a shining star should be. Her care for students never stops, and she makes this school a place where people want to be. We have many incredible staff members, but Nadine truly stands out and deserves this recognition."
Nadine is touched by the recognition.
"I’m totally floored. I appreciate the fact that somebody says I do a good job, but to actually nominate me is really humbling."
Nadine’s dedication and generosity have made a lasting difference at École Plamondon School. Her support and kindness continue to positively impact students and staff alike, and NLPS is pleased to recognise her as the NLPS Staff Shining Star for February 2025.
